Museums in Goa



Christian Art Museum:

Christian Art Museum is located on a remote location in Goa,it is one of its kind in Asia. History and Culture of   Goa is emphasised in this Church Museum. The museum mainly exhibits statues made my portuguese and crafter church arts. Also, exhibits like images,furnishings and decorations crafted by local artists have major role in the Museum.Pelican Monstrance collection is a very unique one in the museum which symbolises mother Pelican opening her brest and feeds her young with her own blood.There are also collection of rosaries,precious stones and objects used for rituals made of Gold.This Church museum 500 sq mt large.
Christian Art Museum is open everyday from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm.




State Archaeology Museum, Panaji
This museum is now located on the outskirts of Panaji,Capital of Goa. It was reconstructed to the current building  and Inaugrated by the President Of India in 1996.The museum exhibits large collection of Stone sculptures,Bronzes,Paintings,Manuscripts,Clay models and other Archeological objects. These objects are loaned from Institute Menezes Braganze Art Gallery and Kala Academy. The Museum consists of 7 Galleries which include  Sculpture Gallery,the Banerji Art Gallery, the Religious Expression Gallery, the Cultural Anthropology, the Contemporary Art Gallery and the Western Bronzes Gallery.Museum is open from Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.




Pilar Museum
This museum is located near Pillar seminary at the Pillar hillock.This museum also emphasises the History of Goa. Artifacts belonging to all religion such as Buddhists,Hindus,Jains and Christians are showcased around the pillar.
This pillar is now a main centre for theological educational activities.Many sculptures of Saints are also seen here.This is one of the best maintained museums in Goa. Even though it is small,those who are willing to know about Goa visit this unique museum with great interest.

    

Wax World Museum
Wax World Museum at Old Goa is the second wax museum in India.The figures are made of paraffin wax,which is a petroleum product. The hair used to finish the statues are natural hair but the eyes and teeth used are artificial. The main attraction of this museum is the statues made to represent the "Last Supper". There are over 32 statues of famous personalities of Indian culture and religion.There is also a candle shop inside the museum where one can purchase various types of candles of various designs,shapes and smells.





Naval Aviation Museum
It is India's one and only Naval Aviation Museum and is also One of its kind in Asia.Goans do not visit this Museum thus it has not turned to a rich tourist spot.The Aircraft which is used by India for its first mission is exhibited in here.Other than that, many other Aircrafts are also seen here.Various types of Jets,Rockets, Warheads, Missiles are also exhibited ih here.THe multimedia room in this museum gives a person, the first experience of of watching a cockpit.The museum also has a picture gallery and provides knowledge and Inspiration for youngsters.
The Museum remains open from 10.00 am. To 5.00 p.m. on all days except Mondays.
