Idukki Dam is one of the most beautiful dams in kerala ,India.It is 168.91 m tall arch dam.The dam is build between two mountains named "kuruvanmala & kurathimala". Idukki Dam is the tallest dam in Asia.The main centre of attraction in idukki dam is its beauty which is covered by the blanket of nature.Two more dams were build along with Idukki Dam, which are Kulamavu Dam and Cheruthoni Dam. The other two dams along with the arch dam has created an artificial lake which has an area of approx 60 km sq. Idukki dam construction began on 30th April 1969. This was inaugurated by Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi. This prestigious project of our nation is owned by Kerala state and its underground power station is situated in Moolamattom which is about 40 kms from Idukki. In the year 1975 it started generating power. Foriegners will be prompt attracted by this place, Idukki wildlife sanctuary is located near Idukki dam.There is about 4 kms of walk through idukki dam.The tunnels and cool breeze provides with the most intense feeling of leisure.
